First major revision. New chassis design, engine revisions and body work. Introduction of a new short-stroke version of the oil-cooled engine, now displacing 748 cc. Engine had 73 millimeter bore and 44.7 millimeter stroke and could achieve higher engine speeds (13,000 rpm redline indicated, but rev limiter engaged at 13,500 according to the Suzuki shop manual). Internal engine dimensions changed to accommodate the new bore and stroke. This engine used larger valves and carburetors than previous years. Mikuni model BST36SS ‘Slingshot’ carbs were 36 millimeter diameter and featured vacuum operated slides; the slide cross section resembled the shape of a slingshot. A four spring clutch was used on the short stroke motor. New styling, and twin black silencers. Wheels were now a 17-inch (430 mm) diameter, three spoke design and used a 160/60VR17 in the rear and 120/70VR17 in the front. Slingshot graphic first appeared on the bodywork. Forks now used a cartridge design and were 43 millimeter in diameter. In 1976, the Titan was given a facelift and gained a single disc front brake. The “Titan” name was dropped and the designation became, simply, GT500 for both the 1976 and 1977 model years. At the end of the 1977 model year, the 500 was dropped from Suzuki’s model line after a production run of ten model years and well over 100,000 examples produced. In Australasia the T350 Rebel developed legendary status after the triumph of racer Joe Eastmure over much larger super bikes in both the 1972 and 1973 6 hour race at Amaroo, Australia. Although only 315 cc and having drum brakes, the bike was able to out race bikes with twice the engine capacity using the quick but stable handling of the bike, especially the ground clearance. The T125 was a popular, cheap and robust commuter in New Zealand. During the 1971 oil shock and recession, large numbers of Japanese home market Wolf models were imported into New Zealand and underpriced the normal export model. The key differences were a less well finished petrol tank which had a narrow raised seam running along the centre top and black painted exhaust instead of all chrome. Most of those imported were the high pipe street scrambler style. A T90 model was also imported. It did not have a tachometer. The 900 cc model is fitted with a 5-speed constant mesh box (using the exact parts from its elder GSXR1100 brother), while the 400 and 600 use 6-speed versions to make the most of the smaller displacement power units. The lubrication of the gearbox and clutch is shared with the crank and engine lubrication. The 900 uses a RK532GSV2 x 110 links chain, although can be converted to use more readily available specifications. The 600 uses a RK50MF0Z1 x 108 links chain. The usual 1-N-2-3-4-5(-6) gearbox shifting pattern is observed. The 900 uses a hydraulically actuated clutch, while the 600 and 400 use cable actuation
